On July 22, GR Korea had the honor of co-hosting the AMCHAM Insights Session, “Navigating the New Administration: Business Roles in a Changing Policy Landscape,” featuring Prime Minister Kim Min-seok as the keynote speaker. Bringing together approximately 140 key figures from government, global business, and academia, the session provided a timely platform for dialogue on Korea’s policy direction under the newly inaugurated Lee Jae-myung administration.
The event opened with welcoming remarks by James Kim, Chairperson and CEO of AMCHAM Korea and Juyun Moon, Head of Operations and Executive Director at GR Korea. Then H.E. Joseph Yun, Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Seoul set the stage with congratulatory messages.
Prime Minister Kim highlighted the Lee Jae-myung administration’s strategic focus on five key industries—AI, Bio, Content & Culture, Defense, and Energy (ABCDE)—as pillars for enhancing Korea’s global competitiveness. He also outlined the new administration’s perspective on strengthening the Korea–U.S. alliance, emphasizing its continued importance in advancing economic and security cooperation. With only 7 weeks since Korea elected a new president, Kim’s remarks offered critical guidance for stakeholders navigating a period of rapid policy transition.
Following Kim’s speech, a panel explored the Lee administration platform in depth, alongside the future of Korea–U.S. economic cooperation. The session was moderated by Chankyeong Choi, Associate Director at GR Korea, with members including Kim Han-kyu, a 2-term National Assembly member from the Democratic Party; Kim Tae-hyung, Commissioner of Invest Korea; Seo Ji-young, Deputy Director for Politics and Foreign Affairs at KBS; and Lee Wang-hwi, Professor of Political Science at Ajou University and Presidential Committee on Policy Planning member.
Overall, the event provided an important nexus for sharing ideas and strategies as multinational firms seek to navigate both a changing domestic policy landscape and a dynamic global trade/economic paradigm. By jointly hosting this event, GR Korea reaffirmed our commitment to fostering constructive dialogue between public and private sectors.
